Calling all durian lovers. I am now staying in Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia. Balik Pulau is famous for its durians, known in Malaysia and this part of the world as the King of Fruits.
I was driving down the old winding road to George Town last week and spotted many cluster of fruits hanging from branches of old durian trees by the roadside. These trees will soon be chopped down to make way for the new road. The widening and straightening of this road is ongoing. If I am not mistaken, the project has been going on for years now.
But back to durians. I was hoping that some of the tantalising durians would just drop down when I was passing these durian trees but of course no such luck.
Anyway, word in Balik Pulau is that the durian season will be in May and June but some stalls along the so-called new road to Balik Pulau are already selling the fruits!
I am really looking forward to these fruits. As far as Balik Pulau is concerned there is only one season for durians. Happy waiting!
